About Cellanchor

Built by operators, for operators.

Cellanchor was founded in 2024 in Boston after years of watching utility-scale BESS operators dispatch on SoH numbers that diverged from electrochemical reality by the time year two came around. We are a measurement company. Not an OEM, not an EMS, not a SCADA platform — a measurement layer that tells you what your battery assets can actually deliver, based on physics and live inverter telemetry.

Partnerships

Utility-side background across ISO-NE and PJM grid operations. Now building Cellanchor's pilot network with BESS operators. Deep relationships across the New England and Mid-Atlantic grid operator community.

Founding Story

The problem we couldn't unsee.

In 2022, while auditing a 20 MWh BESS commissioned for PJM capacity market participation, Aditya Ramaswamy found a recurring pattern: the BMS-reported SoH on multiple string banks read 92–94% — within warranty tolerance. The actual capacity, measured during an offline discharge test, was tracking 81%. The operator had been bidding the wrong number into capacity auctions for 18 months.

That gap — manufacturer lookup curve vs. electrochemical reality — turns out to be structural. Factory characterisation runs at 25°C on fresh cells. Utility-scale BESS runs at ambient, at variable discharge rates, with depth-of-discharge profiles the factory never tested. By year three of operation, BMS-to-actual SoH divergence commonly reaches 10–15%, and the warranty team is rarely the first to notice.

Cellanchor was incorporated in Boston in mid-2024 to build the measurement infrastructure this industry is missing: a physics-based SoH model that runs continuously against live inverter telemetry, not against factory test conditions. Cellanchor is not a battery OEM, not a SCADA vendor, and not an EMS replacement. It is a measurement layer that tells operators what their assets can actually do — so that dispatch, warranty, and maintenance decisions are grounded in physics rather than lookups.

2024 Q3

Incorporated in Boston

Incorporated at 75 Northern Avenue, Pier 4. Angel funding secured. First build of the electrochemical SoH engine using inverter telemetry ingested via DNP3.

2024 Q4

First pilot — PJM utility BESS

Live DNP3 integration with a 4.5 MWh utility-scale BESS in the PJM market. First live SoH vs. BMS divergence recorded: 11% on String 3. Corrective maintenance dispatched 6 weeks ahead of warranty-trigger timeline.

2025 Q1

Dispatch optimizer in live pilots

SoH-adjusted revenue-stack dispatch with LMP integration for energy arbitrage and FCAS bidding. First $/MWh improvement data returned from the PJM pilot.

2025 Q2

C&I and EV fleet segments

Expanded to behind-the-meter C&I and EV fleet depot segments. Three active deployment sites. Angel funding closed at $1.675M to accelerate protocol library and integration engineering capacity.

Values

How we work.

Measurement first

Every number we show has a traceable physical basis. We do not surface metrics we cannot defend to an engineer with a voltmeter and a charge log.

Operator vocabulary

We use the language of the grid, not the language of enterprise SaaS. SoC, SoH, FCAS, LMP, DNP3 — not "health score", "insights", "action items".

Honest scope

Cellanchor is a measurement and analytics platform. We are not a revenue advisor, not a warranty administrator, and not a NERC CIP compliance tool. Our platform is designed with data security controls in mind, but we do not claim certifications we have not been audited against. Pilot partners get written disclosure of what we can and cannot do before day one.
